ABSTRACT:

The effects of petroleum products on the environment are now concerning. As a result, a great deal of study has been done on how to find petroleum products from renewable sources. In this study, bio-based transformer oil was made using neem oil (Azardirachta Indica A. Juss). They bought the oil and refined it. Among the refining techniques used is degumming, which eliminates phospholipids (fats) from the oil. A homogeneous mixture was produced by heating the oil after it had been spun and trans esterified with methanol KOH. The ester was extracted from the mixture using N-hexane, and it was then allowed to dry. This study only looked at how adding pour point depressant (PVA) and anti-foaming agent (silicon oil) affected the transformer's dielectric strength. An increase in dielectric strength was noted. The inclusion of the anti-foaming chemical also improved the oil's flow characteristics. To get the qualities of neem oil as close to those of the conventional mineral oil used in transformers as possible, more work needs to be done.
